Basic Info
Name:Xiao Mei
Bio
Xiao Mei is the Peony Pavilion’s newest showgirl. Blind but beautiful, she is young and inexperienced but is also an extraordinarily talented dancer.

Xiao Mei is the blind daughter of a rebel, the old leader of the House of Flying Daggers. Despite being blind since birth, she has been trained in the arts of dancing and fighting. Vanishing after her father’s death, she is determined to avenge him.

Xiao Mei is, it should be said, very good at pretending to be everything she isn’t.

Xiao Mei is a young Chinese woman from the year 859 A.D. While she isn’t particularly short, she is fairly petite and very, very pretty. With her oval face, glossy black hair (which is, unless otherwise specified, is always tightly tied back), white skin and large dark eyes, Xiao Mei can appear to be nothing more then a little doll. In manner she is calm and poised, everything spoken in a soft, level voice and when she smiles in public it is more of a suggestion of movement then an expression as such. While she can sing, her main talent is dancing. Having a superb sense of both balance and beat, she is extremly graceful and can manipulate both her body and the long sleeves of her dancing outfits to an incredible degree.

However, Xiao Mei has also been a member of the underground movement known as ‘the House of Flying Daggers’ for a number of years and as well as a dancer, she is a fighter. She has been trained in hand-to-hand, swords, knives – throwing and otherwise – and indeed to use whatever is on hand. Her style of fighting is that a mythological martial artist, the kind who can leap impossibly high (almost to the point of flying), move impossibly fast and have an impossible amount of control over thrown weapons. Xiao Mei is not magic, and in this is merely obeying the rules of her world.

When not pretending to be someone else, Xiao Mei can seem to be one of those small, tough women – the kind where life has dealt them a hard hand and they grimly and calmly battle on. Despite being only twenty-three, this toughness is not something she has courted; it is real, as is the air of sadness that can be seen when she in repose.

And, oh.

She isn’t blind.

OOC Note: Nearly all offical translations of ‘the House of Flying Daggers’ have her name being merely ‘Mei’. After re-watching the movie, I have decided to go with the less common ‘Xiao Mei’, as I feel this more accurately portrays what is said on screen. Xiao Mei is pronounced ‘Sha Meh’, with the first syllable being shart and sharp.

Disclaimer: Xiao Mei is not mine, and is the property of Yimou Zhang. She comes from the movie "The House of Flying Daggers" and is being used on a non-profit basis for roleplaying in [info]street_eden.
